Marketplaces

eBay

13.6% of the total sale (item, shipping and sales tax) up to $7,500, plus $0.40 per order ($0.30 on orders of $10 or less).

Etsy

$0.20 listing fee, 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, and 3% + $0.25 payment processing on the total including sales tax.

Depop

No selling fee for US sellers since July 2024.

Whatnot

8% commission on the sold price in most categories (Electronics 5%, Coins & Money 4%), plus 2.9% + $0.30 payment processing on the total the buyer pays, including shipping and tax.

Poshmark

A flat $2.95 on sales under $15, and 20% of the sale price at $15 and over.

Mercari

10% of the item price plus the shipping the buyer pays, with no separate payment processing fee for listings created or edited since 6 January 2025.

Amazon

15% referral fee on the total sales price (item plus shipping and gift wrap) in most categories, at least $0.30 per item, plus $0.99 per item on the Individual plan.

Shopify

With Shopify Payments, US online card payments cost 2.9% + 30¢ on Basic, 2.7% + 30¢ on Grow and 2.5% + 30¢ on Advanced.

TikTok Shop

6% referral fee in most categories, charged on what the customer pays (excluding tax), and it covers payment processing.

PayPal

PayPal Checkout costs 3.49% + $0.49 per US transaction; standard card payments and goods-and-services payments cost 2.99% + $0.49.

Stripe

2.9% + 30¢ per successful US card charge, plus 1.5% for international cards and 1% more if currency conversion is needed.

Square

On the Square Free plan: 2.6% + 15¢ in person, 3.3% + 30¢ for Square Online and invoices, 2.9% + 30¢ through the online API, and 3.5% + 15¢ for keyed-in cards.

Questions

How much does eBay take from a sale?

For most categories in the US, 13.6% of the total sale (item, shipping and sales tax) plus $0.40 per order ($0.30 for orders of $10 or less). On a $45 item with $8 shipping and no sales tax that's about $7.61.

Which marketplace has the lowest fees?

For US sellers, Depop charges no selling fee (only payment processing) and TikTok Shop charges 6% including processing, while Poshmark takes 20% on sales of $15 and over. The compare table shows your real profit on each for the same item.

Do fees apply to shipping?

On eBay, Etsy, Mercari, Amazon and TikTok Shop, yes: the fee is worked out on the item price plus the shipping the buyer pays. eBay and Etsy's payment processing also include sales tax. Poshmark's fee is on the sale price only.
